Baramulla : The Department of Psychology, Government Degree College for Boys, Baramulla, on Tuesday organized an event to mark the celebrations of International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPwDs).
The theme of the day this year was ‘Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.’
The program sought to empower individuals with disabilities as active contributors to society.
Prof. Tariq Chalkoo (Head, Department of Physics) emphasized on fostering a mindset that recognizes individuals with disabilities as differently-abled, calling for collective efforts to dismantle stereotypes and build an inclusive environment.
Key discussions, led by Dr. Zafar Iqbal, underscored the urgent need to address the shortage of professionals trained to cater to the needs of persons with disabilities. Dr. Iqbal highlighted the role of special education and announced plans by Composite Regional Centers (CRCs) to establish District-Level Development Centers, enhancing accessibility and support.
The speakers also advocated for implementing provisions of the Disability Act and urged educational institutions to create inclusive proposals for better accommodation of individuals with disabilities.
Participants called for integrating persons with disabilities into all facets of life with dignity and equality.
