Baramulla: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa and Mission Director Jal Jeevan Mission, Dr. G.N. Itoo, on Saturday chaired a comprehensive meeting to review the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Baramulla district.
During the review, it was stated that 88% of households in Baramulla have already been provided household water connections under the Har Ghar Jal Mission, showcasing significant progress in ensuring access to safe and reliable drinking water.
Meanwhile, the meeting was provided with a detailed division-wise update on the progress of work, including the construction of water supply schemes, piping networks, borewells, and related infrastructure.
During the meeting, the DC instructed officers to coordinate closely with departments such as Revenue, Forest, Wildlife, Roads & Buildings (R&B) and Power Development Department (PDD) to resolve any issues, including the laying of pipe networks, that hamper the completion of the projects.
Minga Sherpa also urged all stakeholders to adopt a proactive approach to addressing challenges, ensuring that every household in the district has access to clean and safe drinking water by the stipulated deadline.
Meanwhile, MD JJM, emphasized that March 2025 marks the conclusion of JJM and directed the concerned officers to expedite pending works on the water supply schemes and other projects and adhere to the set timelines.
Dr. Itoo further underscored the importance of maintaining high-quality standards in all aspects of the project and urged the officers to ensure that no compromises are made in the execution of their responsibilities, stressing that adherence to quality is essential for achieving long-lasting and sustainable outcomes.
Later, the DC in presence of MD JJM and Chief Engineer I&FC inaugurated District Water Testing Lab at Baramulla constructed at the cost of Rs. 65.46 Lacs marks a significant step toward improving water quality monitoring in the region.
The DC and MD JJM inspected a live demonstration of the water testing procedures carried out at the lab to evaluate the lab’s capabilities in assessing water quality through advanced testing methods.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Itoo emphasized that this state-of-the-art lab is open to the public, encouraging residents to bring water samples from their households for testing to ensure that it is safe for drinking and other uses.
The meeting was attended by the Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Chief Planning Officer and Executive Engineers of the four divisions of the district, besides other senior officers and officials from various departments.
