SRINAGAR, Nov 29: Kashmir Valley is bracing for a fresh snowfall as night temperature improved but stayed below freezing point at most of the weather stations on Friday, officials said.
The Meteorological Centre office said a feeble Western Disturbance (WD) is likely to hit and can bring light snowfall over the higher catchments and at isolated places of the Kashmir Valley during tonight and tomorrow morning.
A short rain spell in a few plains, particularly in north Kashmir, cannot be ruled out during the period, it said.
Another WD is likely to bring light rain and light snow over the higher reaches and at the isolated and scattered places towards the afternoon of December 2 and the December 3 forenoon.
The dry weather is likely to prevail hereafter till December 7 with the possibility of a significant drop in night temperature.
The MeT office has also issued an advisory for tourists, travellers, and transporters to follow traffic advisory during the inclement weather.
The Kashmir Valley continued to reel under the severe cold even as there was a slight improvement in night temperature but recorded below freezing point at most of the weather stations during the intervening nights of Thursday and Friday.
Srinagar, after experiencing the season’s coldest night on Thursday, had a low of minus 1.0°C against the minus 2.1°C recorded the previous night. It was still 0.6°C below normal for the summer capital of  Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season.

After remaining the coldest place in the valley, the minimum temperature at the tourist spot of Pahalgam also improved and was recorded at minus 3.4°C on Friday against the minus 5.0°C on Thursday. This was 0.6°C below normal for the famous tourist destination in south Kashmir.
Qazigund recorded a low of 1.8°C against the minus 3.0°C, and it was 1.1°C below normal for the gateway town to Kashmir in south Kashmir during this period of the year.
The minimum temperature at the ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district further improved and was recorded at 0.0°C against the minus 2.5°C recorded the previous night. This was 2.8°C above normal for the valley of meadows during this period of the season.
The temperature at Kokernag also improved and recorded 0.6°C on Thursday against the 0.2°C previous night, and it was 0.7°C above normal for the picnic spot of South Kashmir.
Kupwara had a low of minus 0.4°C against the minus 2.3°C recorded a day ago, and it was 0.6°C above normal for the frontier district of north Kashmir during this period of the season, the MeT office.
