Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Anantnag and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police team from Police Station Srigufwara at a checkpoint established near the hospital crossing in Sirhama intercepted a suspect Gulzar Ahmad Rather S/o Mohd Ayoub Rather R/o Sirhama and during search recovered 3 kilograms of illicit cannabis powder from his possession.
Police in its statement further said that in a separate operation, a police team from Police Station Bijbehara established a naka at Doodnard Waghama and during inspection intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK03G-8966 driven by one Gulzar Ahmad Rather S/o Gh. Rasool Rather R/o Waghama, Bijbehara , adding therein that 3.350 kilograms of a charas was recovered during inspection from his possession.
Stating that both the accused were arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody, Police in its statement further said that cases under relevant sections of the law were registered at Police Station Srigufwara and Police Station Bijbehara besides initiating further investigation. In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police reiterated its commitment to intensifying efforts against drug trafficking to ensure safety and well-being of the people by curbing the distribution of illegal substances.
