Every year, we lose a significant number of loved ones due to road accidents caused by reckless driving, lack of proper training, and, most notably, minors driving without a license. Despite the risks, many parents allow their underage children to drive, mistaking this dangerous freedom as an act of love or care. Such actions not only jeopardize the child’s life but also endanger others on the road. Individuals who are underage are not legally permitted to possess a driving license. This restriction ensures that minors, who have not yet reached the required legal age, cannot operate any motor vehicle, whether a two-wheeler or a four-wheeler. These regulations are in place to promote road safety and prevent accidents caused by inexperienced or immature drivers. Despite knowing these laws and the risks involved, some parents still indulge in the dangerous practice of allowing underage children to operate vehicles, often as a way to show off or satisfy societal pressures. This not only exposes the child to legal consequences but also puts their safety and the safety of others at grave risk. An inexperienced and impatient driver lacks the skills and judgment required to handle unforeseen situations on the road, increasing the likelihood of accidents. Such actions by parents set a poor example and undermine the purpose of regulations designed to protect everyone. Mistakenly, parents consider giving motor vehicles to their children an act of love and care, but in reality, it is akin to handing them an illegal weapon that can harm both themselves and others. When accidents occur, these same parents are left to mourn for the rest of their lives, living in the shadow of their loss. A recent tragic accident in Srinagar, where a Thar collided with a tipper, claimed the lives of many underage individuals. The pain of such incidents is immeasurable and felt most deeply by the grieving parents. Let this be a wake-up call for parents who continue to allow their children to operate motor vehicles under the guise of love and care. Such actions are not expressions of affection but reckless endangerment—a simple way to invite disaster and risk the lives of their children and others on the road.

Parents must recognize their role in preventing such disasters and understand that true care involves protecting their children from the dangers they might not yet fully comprehend. While the rules for minor driving are in place, there is a pressing need to enhance the punishment for underage driving.
