Hindi Important Medium To Connect With Nation’s Vast Population: KU VC

Mastering Language Nuances Essential For Expressing Emotions, Ideas: Experts

Srinagar : To improve communication skills in Hindi and uplift the language by promoting Hindi in non-Hindi speaking areas, the University of Kashmir (KU), Tuesday inaugurated a three-day national seminar here.
The event titled, ‘Hindi Sahitya: Samvad Kaushal’ is being organised by the varsity’s Department of Hindi, in collaboration with the Central Hindi Directorate, Ministry of Education (MoE), New Delhi. The initiative is part of the MoE’s ‘Vistar’ program and features technical sessions and paper presentations focusing on dialogue writing in Hindi literature.
Highlighting the importance of the Hindi language, KU Vice Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan termed Hindi as “not just a language but a medium to connect with a vast population of the country”. “Learning the art of effective communication, especially drafting scripts and messages in Hindi, will help our students academically and professionally,” She said.
Assistant Director, Central Hindi Directorate, Dr Mohammad Naseem, highlighted the seminar’s significance in uplifting Hindi and strengthening its role in diverse regions. “This platform encourages us to learn and express ourselves proficiently in Hindi that will develop deeper connections and understanding,” he said.
Former Dean, School of Arts, Languages and Literature, KU and also the former Head, Department of Hindi, KU, Prof Zohra Afzal, stressed on the power of words in achieving meaningful communication. “Effective use of language is crucial in shaping one’s communication skills,” she said, adding that the seminar will provide participants with guidance on expressing ideas clearly and persuasively in Hindi. Senior faculty at the Department of Hindi, Prof Zahida Jabeen, in her welcome address, underscored the need to take steps towards the upliftment of Hindi language. “Language is a bridge to human connection and mastering its nuances is essential for expressing emotions and ideas,” she said.
Head, Kalyan College, Chhattisgarh, Dr Sudhir Sharma; Prof Doda Sheshu Babu from Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad; Prof Geeta Nayak from Vikram University, Madhya Pradesh, besides scores of academics, faculty, research scholars and students were present at the inaugural ceremony. Faculty, Department of Hindi, Dr Mudasir Ahmad, conducted the proceedings, while faculty, Department of Hindi, Naairah Qureshi, proposed the formal vote of thanks.
