‘One Thar linked to prior violations, owner repeatedly warned before tragedy’

Srinagar: A shocking disclosure has come to the fore regarding the Tengpora Bypass horrific road accident that claimed the lives of two minors. The City Traffic Police have revealed that the incident involved a high-speed illegal road race between two (Thar) vehicles.
A top traffic police official part of the investigation said that yesterday’s accident at Tengpora Bypass surfaced as an ‘illegal car race’ between two Thar vehicles, of which one was a modified, stating the investigation has been pressed into the particular case, with questioning on to the owner of the other vehicle.
“It surfaced as a car race between two Thar vehicles. One that met with an accident was driven by minors, and unfortunately 2 died while one of the injured recovered from the vehicle was summoned and counselled along with his parents many times,” the top officer said.
According to the officer, one of the vehicles involved was found to be modified. The owner of the vehicle which managed to avoid the crash has been summoned for carrying out the investigations.
“The matter is under investigation,” the officer said. “We are exploring whether minors were involved and whether the vehicle involved in the accident had prior violations or modifications that contributed to the incident.”
The officer added that the incident has brought attention to rising cases of reckless driving and over speeding among minors. “This issue requires a multi-dimensional effort,” the officer said. “Parents, schools, and the community must work together to instill discipline and safety awareness among youth.”
The top traffic police cop said they were planning a joint meeting involving stakeholders like district administration, educational institutions, and coaching centers, with an aim to curb such incidents through collective efforts and targeted interventions
