Kulgam Observes ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’ to Celebrate Tribal Heritage & Birsa Munda’s Legacy

Kulgam : The ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’ was on Friday observed with great fervor across various tribal locations which including, Kund, D. K. Marg and Manzgam Blocks and 12 villages of these blocks with a mega event organized at the Mini-Secretariat Kulgam to commemorate the birth anniversary of the iconic tribal leader, Birsa Munda.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from the tribal community, officials, and local residents.
Programme at mini-secretariat was presided over by the Chairperson, District Development Council (DDC), Kulgam Mohammad Afzal Parrey, and featured a range of activities and initiatives.
Present on the occasion were DDC member Kulgam,ADDC, JDP, ACD, ACP and other officers.
Various stalls were set up to register tribal members and spread awareness about government schemes aimed at their welfare. Swachhta (cleanliness) and Drug De-Addiction pledges were also administered, emphasizing the importance of a clean and healthy lifestyle.
Speaking on the occasion, DDC Chairperson Mohammad Afzal Parrey highlighted the historical neglect faced by the tribal community and noted the positive transformation under the current administration.
“The government is focused on the upliftment and welfare of the tribal community, ensuring their rights and access to opportunities,” he remarked.
Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Kulgam also addressed the gathering, shedding light on the significance and historical relevance of ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas.’ He called it a tribute to the brave tribal freedom fighters, especially Birsa Munda, whose sacrifices inspire future generations.
He elaborated on various initiatives undertaken by the administration for the development and progress of tribal communities.
The event also featured speakers from the tribal community, who paid homage to the invaluable contributions of tribal leaders.
The day served as a platform to celebrate the rich tribal heritage, raise awareness, and reinforce the government’s commitment to the empowerment and welfare of the tribal community in Kulgam.
Special gram sabhas were also conducted at tribal villages Besides Tribal achievers being the special invitees were honoured.
Awareness about various schemes especially about forest rights act were given. Plantation drives with theme Ek ped Maa ke naam were also carried out.
