Srinagar: Department of Social Welfare, in collaboration with SANKALP: Hub for Empowerment of Women-Mission Shakti Srinagar, organized a One Day Training Programme focused on “Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse” for educators from various Government Institutions in District Srinagar.
The event took place at the Institute of Hotel Management in Raj Bagh, Srinagar, under the auspices of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign.
The primary objective of the training was to mitigate the risk of abuse and its enduring impacts on children.
Educators are positioned to play a crucial role in this effort, as they often establish close relationships with students and are instrumental in recognizing and preventing abuse, given that children spend a significant amount of time in their care.
The training equipped teachers with the skills to identify behavioral signs of child sexual abuse, understand the reporting mechanisms to relevant authorities, and guide children on how to remain calm, feel secure, and manage their emotions in a constructive manner.
The Department invited two guest speakers from the Mumbai-based NGO Rubaroo Breaking Silences Foundation: Ms. Ishita Manek, Co-founder and Director, and Ms. Priya Vaidya, a Mental Health Professional.
They shared their expertise and raised awareness among the attendees regarding this critical issue.
The event was attended by Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, District Social Welfare Officer of Srinagar and Nodal Officer for BBBP, who inaugurated the training programme.
This was followed by a special address from Dr. Mantasha Binti Rashid, Deputy Director of Rural Sanitation.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ruqaya Ashraf, District Mission Coordinator for SANKALP: Hub for Empowerment of Women.
