Jammu: One Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was killed and three others sustained injuries in an ensuing gunfight on Sunday in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The GOC #WhiteknightCorps and all ranks salute the supreme sacrifice of #Braveheart, Naib Subedar Rakesh Kumar of 2 Para (SF). Sub Rakesh was part of a joint #CI operation launched in the general area of # Bhart Ridge #Kishtwar, the White Knight Corps posted on X.

Earlier four army personnel suffered injuries in an ensuing gunfight that broke out between security forces and terrorists.

Police said that the search party was fired upon during Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) launched on specific inputs in the Keshwan area of Kishtwar.

“The security forces retaliated and the encounter started, said police.

They said that three to four terrorists are believed to be trapped in the gunfight, adding, “This is the same group which killed the two innocent Village Defence Guards (VDGs).

Jammu-based White Knight Corps earlier had posted on X, “on 10 Nov 24, based on specific intelligence input regarding presence of terrorists, a joint Operation was launched by #Security forces in general area #Bhart Ridge #Kishtwar.”

“This is the same group that had abducted and killed two innocent villagers (Village Defence Guards) in Kishtwar region two days back. Contact was established and firefight ensued,” it further posted adding that the operation is in progress.

Two Village Defence Guards (VDGs) were killed by terrorists in a remote part of Kishtwar district on November 7.

The two VDGs identified as Nazir Ahmad, son of Muhammad Khalil and Kuldeep Kumar, son of Amar Chand–both residents of Ohli, Kuntwara used to go to Munzla Dhar (Adhwari) to graze their cattle but did not return on that day.The bodies were recovered later.
