ECE department lifts Inter-Deptt football final at NIT Srinagar

Srinagar: The ECE (Electronics and Communication Engineering) Department clinched the Inter-Department Football Tournament title at National Institute of Technology (NIT) with a commanding 3-1 victory over the MME (Metallurgical and Materials Engineering) Department in a thrilling final match.
According to a statement issued from Public Relations Office NIT Srinagar the tournament was organised by Students Activity & Sports Centre and all the department teams participated actively this mega event.
From the beginning, the match witnessed an intense battle of skill and teamwork from both sides. In the first half, MutahirZahoor (2022BECE008) from the ECE Department opened the scoreboard with a well-executed goal. The MME Department responded with equal enthusiasm as Ravi Choudhary (2021BMME071), the captain, leveled the match with a goal for his team.
The second half saw ECE’s MutahirZahoor in top form again, scoring his second goal and further tightening his team’s grip on the game. With just two minutes remaining, Mutahir completed his hat-trick, bringing the final score to 3-1 in favor of the ECE Department, securing a resounding victory in the championship.
During the post-match ceremony, the Institute’s Registrar Prof. AtikurRehman, Dean of Planning and Development (P&D) Dr. Yaswant Mehta, SAS Coordinator Dr. Srinibash Mishra, along with other distinguished guests,distributed the trophies to both the winner, ECE Department, and the runner-up, MME Department.
Players of both teams were also honored for their outstanding performances and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
In his speech, Institute Registrar, Prof. AtikurRehman said that this final match was a true display of sportsmanship, teamwork, and determination. The passion and energy on the field were incredible.
“I congratulate both teams for their outstanding performances. ECE’s victory is well-deserved, and I hope this tournament inspires more students to actively participate in sports alongside their academics,” he added.
In his message, Dean P&D, Dr. Mehta said that football is not just a game; it teaches resilience, strategy, and collaboration. Both teams have shown tremendous spirit throughout the tournament.
“I applaud the ECE Department for their triumph, and the MME Department for putting up a strong fight. These moments build character, and I look forward to seeing more of such healthy competition in the future,” he added
SAS Officer Kowsar Ali Mir said this final match showcased not just skill and strategy but also the spirit of unity and sportsmanship that sports instills in students,’ he said.
He said that SAS Centre will be organizing more inter-departmental tournaments in the coming months. ‘We aim to provide students with even more opportunities to engage in sports activities, fostering physical fitness and teamwork alongside their academic pursuits,” he added.”
