Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested six drug peddlers in Baramulla, Budgam, Handwara & Ganderbal and recovered contraband/ psychotropic substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar police said that a police party of Police Station Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Old Town, intercepted two suspects Shahid Bilal Shah S/o Bilal Ahmad R/o Janbazpora and Suhail Ahmad Bhat S/o Mushtaq Ahmad R/o Ladoora Rafiabad and during search recovered 380 tablets of Alprazolam from their possession.
Stating that in a similar action a Police Party of Police Post Pakherpora of District Budgam intercepted a suspect Ishfaq Ahmad Sheikh S/o Ab Gani Sheikh R/o Pakharpora while carrying a nylon bag at Kanidajan near Gund Shamus Crossing , Police in its statement further said that during search 60 grams of Charas and cash of ₹200 were recovered from the possession of the said accused.
Police in its statement further said that in Handwara also a Police team led by SHO Handwara at a checkpoint established at Wateyen Chogul, arrested two drug peddlers identified as Khalid Gani Shah S/o Ab Gani Shah and Basharat Bashir Khan S/o Bashir Ahmad Khan, both residents of Maidan Chogul and during search recovered 16.92 grams of Heroin from their possession.
Stating that in another similar action In Ganderbal, a Police party of Police Station Kangan at a checkpoint established at Hayan Bridge, arrested a drug peddler Ghulam Qadir Mir S/O Ghulam Mohammad Mir R/O Cherwan Kangan who was travelling on a Scooty bearing registration no JK16B-4790, Police in its statement further said that during search, Poppy Straw was recovered from the possession of the said accused besides which the Scooty used in the commission of crime was also seized. Police in its statement furthermore said that all the said accused have been shifted to respective police stations and cases under relevant sections of law have been also registered regarding these incidents.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the , reiterating therein its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
