J&K assembly adjourned till Friday amid chaos over special status resolution

Srinagar, Nov 07: The Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly was adjourned till Friday in the wake of chaos over a resolution passed by the house yesterday seeking restoration of special status of the erstwhile state.

The speaker, Abdul Rahim Rather, adjourned the House after ordering the marshalling out of the BJP members who continued their protest against the resolution.

Earlier, chaotic scenes were witnessed in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly as the BJP and ruling party members continued to spar over the special status resolution passed by the house yesterday.

As soon as the house convened, BJP leaders led by LoP Sunil Sharma started sloganeering to demand withdrawal of the resolution passed by the house, forcing the speaker to adjourn the house for 20 minutes.

After the house reconvened, the LoP started speaking, but he was stopped by the Speaker who said that he will be allowed to speak at his turn.

“Isko samjaye (make him understand)… he has not read basic rules of assembly. You are not above law and rules. Take your seat,” speaker asked the LoP.

The speaker, Abdul Rahim Rather, said that he was watching activities of some members while asking them not to force his hand.

Sunil accused the ruling party of getting lakhs of people killed in the name of special status, which provoked the treasury benches. They stood up and started raising slogans, ‘Jis Kashmir ko khoon se seencha, woh Kashmir humara hai’.

Soon, speaker ordered the marshalling out of the BJP MLAs.

Later, Sajad Lone accused the NC and BJP of playing a ‘fixed match’ by not letting anybody else to speak.
