Srinagar |Nov,4 : PDP legislator Waheed ur Rehman Parra on Monday requested the Legislative Assembly to pass a resolution seeking the restoration of Article 370.
“I request the Assembly to pass a resolution for the restoration of Article 370,” Waheed said while also handing over PDP’s resolution to the Speaker. As soon as Parra began speaking, BJP legislators stood up and urged the Speaker to expunge Waheed’s words. However, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather advised the BJP leaders to leave it to him, saying, “You can’t dictate terms to the Speaker.” Then there was a war of words between ruling and opposition legislators. Early morning the assembly which started its maiden session at 10.30 A.M elected veteran National Conference leader Abdul Rahim Rather, a former finance minister of erstwhile J&K State, as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. The Legislative Assembly began at 10:30 am after which Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, and Cooperatives, Javid Ahmed Dar proposed the name of National Conference veteran Abdul Rahim Rather, a member of the Assembly, for the Speaker’s position. Arjun Singh Raju seconded the motion. Rather was unanimously elected by the House as the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. Rather has held the position of Finance Minister of erstwhile J&K state several times.
