Srinagar: Two migrant laborers working in the Magam area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district were shot and injured by militants on Friday evening. Both were immediately taken to the hospital, where their condition is reported to be stable.
The injured have been identified as Mohammad Usman Malik (20) and Mohammad Sofiyan (25), both residents of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. They were working on the Jal Jeevan Project in the Mazahama area when they were attacked by suspected militants.
Sources told Kashmir Horizon that militants opened fire on the two laborers in Mazahama, Budgam. “After the attack, they were quickly rushed to the hospital, and their condition is stable. “Both injured have been referred to SKIMS Bemina from SDH Magam. One laborer sustained a bullet wound to his arm, while the other was shot in the leg, but both are stable,” he confirmed. This marks the fifth militant attack in Kashmir Valley since the formation of the elected government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Meanwhile, security has been intensified across central Kashmir. Additional forces have been deployed in nearby areas. “Nakas (checkpoints) and checking points have been set up along the Srinagar-Gulmarg highway and surrounding areas as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident. Special teams have been deployed and are on high alert,” the police said.
On October 24, two soldiers and two Army porters were killed, while another porter and soldier were injured in a militant attack on an Army vehicle near Gulmarg. Seven people, including a doctor and six migrant laborers, were killed in an attack on a construction site in Sonamarg, Ganderbal district on Oct 20.
October 18: Militants killed Ashok Chauhan, a migrant worker from Bihar, in Shopian district. His body was found in Waduna, Zainapora. These incidents have heightened security concerns in the region, with authorities tightening measures to prevent further attacks.
