VMS, Other NGOs Pay Glowing Tributes To Late Khurshid Malik

Srinagar The Voluntary Medicare Society held a memorial meeting at its main campus in Bemina in the memory of its Vice President, Khurshid Ahmad Malik, who passed away on 16 th October 2024.
The meeting was attended by the Management Committee, staff members, the representatives of Wheelchair Association of Kashmir, Zeba Apapa Institute, Bijbehara, top notch of leading NGO Help Poor Voluntary Trust, Iqbal
Memorial Institute, Social activists and various dignitaries, all of whom came together to pay tribute to the life and legacy of Malik, a remarkable leader who dedicated his life to the service of others. During the meeting glowing tributes were paid to the departed soul for his unmatched work in the area of disability. He despite being wheelchair-bound for a period of over 37 years, after a
tragic road accident, served with distinction as an IAS officer and remained a passionate advocate for the rights and rehabilitation of people with disabilities. His role in rendering peer counseling to the Spinal Cord Injury victims inspired over two thousand such victims to live a near normal life and even work to earn livelihood. Some of the beneficiaries of his counseling like Javed Ahmad Tak of Zeba Aapa Institute, Dildar Ahmad another Disability Rights Activists, Gurdeep Singh, a known disability warrior, Insha and a host of others recounted as to how late Khurshid inspired them to fight the disability and live normally. He
left an indelible imprint on the lives of those in need of rehabilitation, education, and livelihood support. His visionary and administrative role helped to shape the organization’s mission and brought positive change to the field of disability rights across the area. On this occasion the Help Poor Voluntary Trust’s President, patron Maulana Sanaullah Qasmi, Nissar Ahmad Beigh and others presented a Spasnama in the name of Khurshid Ahmad Malik to Dr Mir Maqbool, President VMS. Dr Mor Maqbool Turned highly emotional when he was asked to say something occasion and because of his ill health left the
venue early. Members of the Wheelchair Association and Wheelchair Bouund Volleyball team also expressed their gratitude to the departed soul for his unstinted support in their hard times. Dr Farooq Ahmad Kaloo, member of the Governing Body of the VMS described late Khurshid Ahmad as a brave heart who stood like a rock in support of disabled community. Naseema Lanker described Khurshid Sahib as somebody Godsend for the disability victims. She also shared grief of the bereaved family. Er Mushtaq Ahmad Malik recounted the services of the deceased to the cause of VMS and his passion to serve the institution. The staff and management shared memories of his guidance, wisdom, and determination to push boundaries, despite personal challenges. The VMS Management and staff described the departure of late Khurshid Ahmad as a colossal loss for the VMS in particular and disability sector in general.
