“Since delay in announcing school timing changes also disturbs the class timings of the students at coaching centres, the delay in changing school timings disturbs students both psychologically and as well as physically.”
School timings are always changed according to change in weather conditions and it is a decades old routine practice in Kashmir Valley. Though school timings are increased by half an hour in the morning and also reduced by half an hour in the evening from Ist to 31st October in Kashmir Valley and this automatically is increased and decreased by another half an hourin the morning and evening from Ist November till Mid December but this year the School Education Department has not announced any change in school timings in Kashmir Valley so for. The month of November is now just a week away and with temperature going down unprecedentedly the change in school timings is now overdue. An unwanted delay on this count can only trigger a debate over the issue and prolong the decision at the most only by a few days. Though this is the time for both the teachers and as well as the students not to get into an unwanted debate over the change in school timings and instead continue academic activities for completing syllabus before the commencement of winter vacation but ultimately it is for the top authorities of the School Education not to allow a situation for debate to arise in and outside schools. Since delay in announcing school timing changes also disturbs the class timings of the students at coaching centres, the delay in changing school timings disturbs students both psychologically and as well as physically. As such it is not at all good for the psychological and mental health of children to let them debate change in school timings with their teachers who they feel can take up the demand for change in school timings very strongly with the Government in view of their change in timings at coaching centres.
“While the pressing concern is the completion of syllabus before the commencement of winter vacations in December, better for the School Education Department not to delay its decision on change in school timings to further the causes of convenience of the student both at the schools and as well as the coaching centres. Wisdom demands that top authorities in the school Education Department take the decision on their own without waiting for any hue and cry from the parents and the students in Kashmir Valley. Taking a decision as per routine practices would reduced the academic conveniences of thousands of students across Kashmir.”
