“Security of lives of people has been accorded the highest priority during last five years and continues to be high on Government’s national security agenda and more so in case of  the construction workers working on key developmental projects.”

The killing of a doctor and six construction workers in Gagangir area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district has undoubtedly triggered a wave of shock and grief across Kashmir. The attention of the Government has as such shifted from the return of popular rule in Jammu & Kashmir to grief and shock over the killings of six innocent construction workers and a doctor in Ganderbal district. Security of lives of people has been accorded the highest priority during last five years and continues to be high on Government’s national security agenda and more so in case of  the construction workers working on key developmental projects both in Kashmir Valley and as well as Jammu division. The attack on the construction workers and a doctor on the construction site of Z-Morh tunnel is not the first one witnessed in Kashmir but in past also such attacks have been witnessed.  Since implications of such attacks on construction sites of a prestigious developmental project like Z-Morh tunnel in Sonamarg area of the Sonamarg area are of far reaching consequences for the growth and the development of economy in Jammu & Kashmir, the Central Government particularly the Home Minister Amit Shah has himself voiced his serious over the attack that led to killing of six construction workers and a doctor. As such attacks inevitably have a bearing on the development of infrastructural projects taken up for boosting the economy of the people in Valley, the priority of the Government  obviously would be to imbibe a sense of security among the people in general and the construction workers working on such developmental projects in particular.

“While the improvement in the security situation witnessed during last five years has brought about a remarkable improvement in the tourist activities, trade and business and education in schools, colleges and universities, the occurrence of Gagangir Ganderbal like attacks could bring under stress both the educational and business activities in Kashmir once again. The killings in the Gagangir area of Ganderbal as such necessitate an immediate review of the security situation for the purposes of corrective measures needed to prevent occurrence and re-occurrence of Ganderbal like killings.”

While a team of National Investigative Agency (NIA) has reached the site of the attack in Gagangir area of Ganderbal for the purposes of investigation, the matter of greater attention for the Government remains stablising the security system which has already brought about a perceptible change on the ground during last five years. While the improvement in the security situation witnessed during last five years has brought about a remarkable improvement in the tourist activities, trade and business and education in schools, colleges and universities, the occurrence of Gagangir Ganderbal like attacks could bring under stress both the educational and business activities in Kashmir once again. The killings in the Gagangir area of Ganderbal as such necessitate an immediate review of the security situation for the purposes of corrective measures needed to prevent occurrence and re-occurrence of Ganderbal like killings.
