Cabinet Portfolios Allocated In J&K: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced the allocation of portfolios to the newly inducted ministers in Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s cabinet on Friday. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary will oversee Public Works (R&B), Industries and Commerce, Mining, Labour and Employment, and Skill Development. The cabinet’s only woman member, Sakeena Itoo, will manage Health and Medical Education, School Education, Higher Education, and Social Welfare. Other key appointments include Javed Ahmed Rana for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment, and Tribal Affairs, and Javid Ahmad Dar for Agriculture Production, Rural Development, Cooperative, and Elections. Satish Sharma will handle Food, Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs, and several other portfolios. Omar Abdullah congratulated the ministers on their new roles and emphasized their responsibility in advancing the government’s developmental agenda.
LG Sinha Meets Families Of Militancy Victims: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha met with families of militancy victims from across Kashmir at Raj Bhawan. The families recounted the tragic incidents surrounding their losses and urged the Lt Governor for intervention in resolving their issues. Paying tribute to the martyred civilians, Sinha expressed his commitment to providing support and assistance, vowing to ensure justice and welfare for the marginalized families affected by militancy.
Omar Abdullah’s First Cabinet Meeting Focuses on Statehood: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah held his first cabinet meeting, emphasizing the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting included cabinet members and Chief Secretary Atal Duloo, with plans to finalize ministerial portfolios. A senior NC leader noted that the Chief Minister would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi soon to discuss pressing public issues.
CM Omar Visits Warwan Fire Victims: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited Warwan to meet families affected by a massive fire that destroyed homes and livelihoods. The fire devastated 77 houses and 53 cattle sheds, leaving 84 families in need of assistance. Abdullah assured residents that the government would support their rebuilding efforts and that immediate relief was underway.
Supreme Court to Hear Statehood Restoration Application: The Supreme Court agreed to hear an application seeking the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood within two months. The application, filed by activist Khurshaid Ahmad Malik and teacher Zahoor Ahmed Bhat, highlighted the lack of action from the Union government despite previous assurances.
MEA Reiterates India’s Stance On Kashmir: The Ministry of External Affairs affirmed that Kashmir is an integral part of India, responding to remarks made by Pakistan’s Prime Minister and China’s Premier regarding the Kashmir issue. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated that India’s position will remain unchanged, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar did not hold any bilateral talks with Pakistan during his recent visit to Islamabad.
G A Mir Appointed New CLP Leader in J&K: The All India Congress Committee appointed G A Mir as the new leader of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) in Jammu and Kashmir. Mir expressed gratitude to party leaders for the trust placed in him, following a unanimous resolution by party MLAs.
BJP Set to Claim Deputy Speaker Position: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), having emerged as the second-largest party in the recent Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, is expected to secure the Deputy Speaker position. A senior BJP leader confirmed that the party would stake its claim, citing the tradition of offering this role to the second-largest party.
Kashmir Marathon Preparations Complete: Raja Yaqoob Farooq, the Director of Tourism for Kashmir, announced that all arrangements are in place for the eagerly awaited Kashmir Marathon, set to take place on October 20, 2024. Organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department, this marathon is anticipated to be a significant sporting event, attracting over 2,000 participants from India and abroad.
