GDC Thannamandi celebrates Sir Syed Day, Nirmala Deshpande Jayanti

Thanamandi (Rajouri) : The Literary Committee in collaboration with IQAC of Govt. Degree College Thannamandi celebrated Sir Syed Day, Nirmal Deshpande Jayanti as part of International Day for Eradicating poverty here Friday.
While linking International Day for eradicating poverty with life and works of legendary reformers, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Educationist and founder of AMU Aligarh, and Nirmala Deshpande, Gandhian Social Activist, an impressive programme organized under the patronage of Dr. Nazakat Hussain Incharge Principal of College.
The programme started with the documentary on Sir Syed Ahmed Khan who dedicated his life for the empowerment of downtrodden section of society through the instrument of modern education and founded Aligarh Muslim University after surpassing cumbersome ordeals.
While speaking on the occasion Dr. Nazakat, an alig, emphasized upon the need of taking forward the educational work of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan to achieve socio-economic development of masses. He also underlined the unparallel contribution made by Nirmala Deshpande in maintaining communal harmony and peace which are prerequisites of poverty eradication. Dr. Naseem Ahmed, Head Department of Chemistry in College, another Alig in college also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, Dr. Ashaq Malik, Co-ordinator IQAC in College yet another Alig, welcomed and introduced the audience about the programme. He explained how the two important occasions – birthdays of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and Nirmala Deshpande fall on the same day which is also celebrated as International Day for Eradicating Poverty across the globe. Dr. Malik gave an overview of life and works of two real Bharat Ratans, One (Sir Syed Ahmed Khan) helped fought out poverty by spreading education and other (Nirmala Deshpande) by promoting communal harmony, nonviolence and through serving the oppressed. Nirmala Deshpande who traveled some 40000 kms across India while spreading the message of peace and nonviolence, and championed Gandhi ji’s philosophy throughout her life is a great source of inspiration for all of us, he added.
Dr. Abdul Haque Naimi, Head Department of Urde and Convener, College Literary Committee conducted the proceedings of programme whereas Dr. Shiraz Ahmed, Head Department of Zoology and Staff Secretary, presented formal vote of thanks. The programme concluded with AMU Tarana followed by National Anthem.
