“The new J&K Chief Minister has overcome the first challenge of regional balancing in the constitution of his small cabinet of six ministers despite single largest opposition party BJP denying his party National Conference the opportunity of crossing double digit mark in Jammu region.”
Omar Abdullah the first Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory has set a new record of recovering from a defeat in 2024 Lok Sabha Elections in May this year to a landslide victory in recently held assembly elections in a short span of five months not only for him only but also for his party National Conference. So the five month struggle of Omar Abdullah the first Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir itself speaks volumes about his courage and commitment to fight against all odds. Now he has embarked on a new journey which would be yet another phase of struggle for him as situation and the current political scenario in Jammu & Kashmir has given him the role of balancing his political relations with his ally Congress party the single largest opposition party in the parliament and BJP the single largest party in the J&K Assembly and ruling party at the centre. Interestingly the new J&K Chief Minister has overcome the first challenge of regional balancing in the constitution of his small cabinet of six ministers despite single largest opposition party BJP denying his party National Conference the opportunity of crossing double digit mark in Jammu region. Gifting the key position of Deputy Chief Minister to a man of his own party from Jammu region and denying cabinet berths to the tallest stalwarts of his party from Kashmir Valley shows that he has cultivated the art of both political inclusiveness and as well as regional balancing. Having already mastered the art of political inclusiveness in constituting his small cabinet of six ministers the incoming Chief Minister Omar Abdullah can as such surprise people with his new methods of inclusiveness and regional balancing in the working of J&K Government.
“While the National Conference President Farooq Abdullah prefers to show his presence on the national political scene as leader of the Congress led I.N.D.I.A alliance, running a Government in Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory with the support of BJP controlled Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi won’t be a cake walk for Omar Abdullah in his second innings as Chief Minister. As actions speak louder than words the people of Jammu & Kashmir would keenly watch the working of the first 100 days of Omar Abdullah Government and rate the performance of the Chief Minister accordingly probably by January end next year.”
Though it is too early to talk about the future of the Omar Abdullah led Government in Jammu & Kashmir but path of inclusiveness and regional balancing adopted by him would obviously show him the way to take out Jammu & Kashmir from the current phase of struggle to new era of stability. While the National Conference President Farooq Abdullah prefers to show his presence on the national political scene as leader of the Congress led I.N.D.I.A alliance, running a Government in Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory with the support of BJP controlled Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi won’t be a cake walk for Omar Abdullah in his second innings as Chief Minister. As actions speak louder than words the people of Jammu & Kashmir would keenly watch the working of the first 100 days of Omar Abdullah Government and rate the performance of the Chief Minister accordingly probably by January end next year.
