Srinagar: With hearts filled with devotion, devotees gathered under the clean sky as their faith deepened while night-long prayers commenced at the revered Dastgeer Sahab Shrine in Khanyar, Srinagar.
The prayers mark the annual Urs of Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA), which is to be celebrated tomorrow, an occasion that brings thousands together in remembrance of the Sufi saint’s teachings and legacy.
This year, the sense of anticipation is palpable, as families from different parts of the valley have made their way to the shrine.
For many, it is not just a religious gathering but a tradition deeply rooted in their lives.
Mukhtar Ahmad, a local from Khawaja Bazar, Srinagar, said that coming here gives him peace. “I have been attending the Urs since childhood with my parents, and now I bring my own children. It is a moment where we connect with our past and seek blessings for the future,” he said.
The Urs of Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA) will be celebrated tomorrow, with night-long special prayers tonight. The faithful will stay awake through the night, asking for guidance.
“We are here to serve the devotees, to ensure their experience is spiritually fulfilling and comfortable,” said an official from the shrine, adding that no stone has been left unturned, with multiple departments working in unison to make sure the devotees are provided with every convenience.
Burhan, a devotee, said, “I feel a special connection whenever I visit here. The teachings and guidance of Ghouse Azam are always in my heart, and I feel calm and relaxed whenever I visit the Dastgeer Sahab Shrine.”
It is worth mentioning that the streets of Khanyar are already bustling with pilgrims, with vendors setting up stalls offering sweets and other devotional items.
Similarly, tomorrow’s Urs Mubarak is expected to draw even larger crowds, united by faith, hope, and the deep spiritual connection that Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA) continues to inspire across generations
