Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has busted a major interstate drug trafficking network in Anantnag by arresting three individuals involved in the illicit trade.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that while acting on credible input about a consignment of narcotic drugs being transported from Delhi to Srinagar, the Police in Anantnag established multiple checkpoints along the route and during checking, a vehicle (Toyota car) was intercepted at Doonipora Bijbehra, with three suspects identified as Monty Singh R/o Bulandshahar, UP, Ashish Bardawaj and Rahul both residents of Chhatarpur, New Delhi on board. Stating that during search, 413 bottles of Codeine Phosphate (NRX), branded as Codril-T, concealed in the car’s door panels were recovered, Police in its statement further said that all the said accused were arrested and shifted to Police Station Bijbehara where they remain in custody.
In its statement Police further said “further investigation revealed that the consignment was reportedly intended for delivery in Sopore and Srinagar but by acting swiftly, multiple raids were conducted, resulting in the detention of a local smuggler from Sopore for questioning”, adding therein that the Cooperation with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in New Delhi led to a raid at a warehouse in Noida’s Sector 135, where a substantial quantity of Codeine was recovered.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police said that some individuals behind the racket identified as Sachin Rana and Arun Rana both residents of Faridabad have been identified and efforts are on to apprehend them, stating therein further that the operation has uncovered both the forward and backward linkages of the interstate drug network, with further arrests expected as the investigation continues.
