Jammu: The Department of Punjabi, University of Jammu, in collaboration with the Punjabi Lekhak Sabha, Jammu, hosted “Rubroo,” a special literary event to honor the acclaimed Punjabi poet, fiction writer, and filmmaker, Dr. Baljit Singh Raina. The event also marked the release of his latest novel, “Muhabbat.”
The gathering was graced by several distinguished guests, with Prof. Rahul Gupta, Registrar of the University of Jammu, as the Chief Guest. The event was presided over by Amarjit Singh Grewal, a well-known Punjabi author and intellectual. Guests of Honour included Dr. Manmohan, an IPS Officer and respected poet and professor at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, along with Sawarnjeet Singh Savi, Chairman Punjab Art Council and an accomplished artist. Prof. Sucheta Pathania, Head, Department of Punjabi, welcomed the audience and dignitaries, highlighting the department’s various academic and literary initiatives. She also acknowledged the collaborative efforts with other prominent literary organizations that made the event possible. Dr. Harsimran Singh provided an insightful overview of “Muhabbat,” Dr. Raina’s novel, emphasizing its themes of love, separation, and the ideological differences between India and Pakistan. The novel also explores the impact of the 1947 partition on the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Literary figures praised Dr. Raina’s work for its deeply emotional and thought-provoking narrative. The event concluded with a strong sense of accomplishment, celebrating Dr. Raina’s vast contributions to Punjabi literature while sparking meaningful discussions around love, identity, and the human experience. Prof. Baljeet Kour coordinated the event, with Dr. Harjinder Singh co-coordinating and hosting the proceedings. The event drew participation from university faculty, officers, scholars, students, and notable literary personalities from various languages, making “Rubroo” and the book release a resounding success.
