Baramulla: After a distinguished 16 month tenure, the Indian Army Saturday said that Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai on Saturday handed over command of the Chinar Corps, marking the end of a period that brought enhanced security and stability to Jammu and Kashmir.
As per reports, his leadership was instrumental in ensuring incident-free Amarnath Yatras and overseeing the smooth conduct of the May 2024 Parliamentary Elections and the long-awaited Assembly Elections, held for the first time in a decade from September to October 2024.
“During Lt Gen Ghai’s time in command, the Chinar Corps delivered significant successes in counter-infiltration and counter-militancy operations, dealing a crippling blow to the region’s militant network. His efforts extended beyond military operations, with several community outreach programs that fostered goodwill among the people of Kashmir. Known for his humane approach, Lt Gen Ghai leaves behind a legacy of peace-building initiatives. He now moves to Army Headquarters to assume the prestigious role of Director General of Military Operations”.
In a ceremonial handover, Lt Gen Prashant Srivastava took charge of the Chinar Corps, paying tribute to the fallen soldiers at the Chinar War Memorial in Badami Bagh Cantonment, Srinagar.
“A battle-hardened officer with 34 years of service, Lt Gen Srivastava has held several prestigious command and staff appointments. He brings extensive operational experience from his time in both Jammu and Kashmir and the North East, including his command of the Counter Insurgency Force (Victor) in South Kashmir”.
Upon assuming command, Lt Gen Srivastava expressed his commitment to working closely with civil authorities and the Kashmiri community to promote peace and prosperity. He called on the people to unite with security agencies in overcoming the challenges posed by militancy.
