Srinagar : The office of the Home Minister of India responded sharply to a tweet by National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, dismissing it as “misleading and speculative.”

In a social media statement the HMO clarified that there is no truth to Abdullah’s claims and reiterated that the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act of 2019 remains fully in force.

The ministry also pointed out that the business rules under this Act were notified in 2020. “It emphasized the overwhelming public support for the democratic process in Jammu and Kashmir, as evidenced by enthusiastic participation in recent elections”. In a tweet, Omar Abdullah had said, “The BJP has clearly accepted defeat in J&K. Why else would the Chief Secretary be assigned the duty to change the transaction of business rules of the government to curtail the powers of the Chief minister / elected government and assign the same to the LG? This information has come to me from within the Secretariat. Officers would be well advised to resist any pressure to further disempower the incoming elected government”.
