Srinagar : The Geology & Mining (G&M) Department Pulwama has intensified its efforts to curb illegal mining activities in the district amidst ongoing concerns over environmental degradation and resource mismanagement.
Syed Ishfaq Ahmad Shah, a supervisor from the department, emphasized that despite strict enforcement measures, illegal mining incidents persist. “Our stringent checkposts and watchmen have not deterred illegal activities as we had hoped,” Shah said. He reaffirmed the department’s commitment to taking severe legal action against violators, stressing that the public should be aware of the legal ramifications of engaging in or supporting such activities. He said that the department has begun implementing new regulations to strengthen oversight, aiming to ensure the protection of mineral resources while respecting local rights and conservation efforts.
Meanwhile, local residents have expressed confidence in the department’s initiatives, highlighting the importance of safeguarding both the environment and their rights. The department is dedicated to maintaining transparency and accountability, vowing to continue its rigorous monitoring to combat illegal mining effectively.
