Ganderbal : Ahat-e-Waqar (Senior Citizen’s Home) Ganderbal implemented by the She Hope Society for Women Entrepreneurs celebrated the International Day of Older Persons on October 1st, 2024 in collaboration with the district Administration and Jammu and Kashmir Price Monitoring and Resource Unit.
This significant event, facilitated by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, aims to promote the welfare of senior citizens and enhance their social engagement within our communities.
To ensure a memorable IDOP, Senior Citizen’s Home has planned various activities, including cultural performances, talks, health camps, laughter clubs, and gardening sessions. Apart from the residents, senior Citizens from surrounding areas have also been invited to participate in the event.
As part of the “Swachhata Hi Sewa” campaign, a cleanliness drive was conducted along the banks of River Sind near Waterfall Restaurant.
A significant quantity of waste, including plastic, was collected from the area and transported away by municipal vehicles.
A health check-up of the Senior Citizens was conducted during the event. A significant activity was the plantation drive, where senior citizens themselves took part in planting trees at the Home.
The team from JKPMRU was thoroughly impressed by the remarkable work She Hope Society is doing for senior citizens and promised to provide every possible support.
Sami wani, Executive Director of She Hope Society for Women Entrepreneurs (SHSFWE) in his address, shared his experiences with the audience about his interactions with senior citizens.
He informed the JKPMRU team about the facilities available for senior citizens, highlighting a particular story of a non-Muslim individual from Haryana. This individual had read about AHAT-E-Waqar on our website and travelled all the way from Punjab to seek shelter as he had no one to take care of him.
Aaprt from enlightening the JKPMRU about the facilities available for Senior Citizens at the Home, Executive Director SHSFWE gave them a tour of the Home as well.
In conjunction with this celebration, the She Hope Society for Women Entrepreneurs in collaboration Jammu and Kashmir Price Monitoring and Resource Unit and the district Administration conducted another significant event, the “Swachhata Hi Sewa”.
The Swachhata Hi Sewa initiative was conducted to promote cleanliness and foster a sense of collective responsibility across communities.
The initiative was not just a campaign, but a reinforcement of the belief that it is a shared responsibility of the community to ensure that our surroundings remain clean.
Volunteers from the Jammu and Kashmir Price Monitoring and Resource Unit, along with She Hope, conducted a cleanliness drive along the banks of the River Sind. They collected most of the litter in trash bags and removed it from the area.
During a media interaction, Sami Wani emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean environment and expressed his satisfaction in participating in such a valuable campaign. “I feel elated to be part of a campaign that is imperative for keeping the environment clean,” he said.
Advocate Shugufta, Centre Administrator of One Stop Centre, educated people about their right to a clean environment.
Zaffar Sahib from the Price Monitoring Unit expressed gratitude to Hope for collaborating with JKPMRU in their campaign. In his address, he highlighted the importance of environmental cleanliness, noting that even the Quran emphasizes the need to maintain a clean environment.
