“J&K Elections Significant Being the first assembly polls since Art 370”

Jammu: The people of Jammu and Kashmir are eager for a government that prioritizes a future devoid of “corruption, militancy, and separatism,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Saturday, September 28, 2024. He characterized the Congress, National Conference (NC), and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the “greatest adversaries” of the Constitution, underscoring a desire for peace and stability in the region to secure a brighter future for their children.
At a poll rally at M A M Stadium in Jammu ahead of the last phase of the assembly elections, he referred to the 2016 surgical strikes across the border and said, “The militancy mentors know that if they do anything wrong, Mr. Modi will find them even in ‘Pataal’ (netherworld). He confidently declared on Saturday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to form its first government with a full majority in Jammu and Kashmir. The results will be announced on October 8, and we all have been brought up in the blessings of Mata Vaishno Devi. This Vijayadashmi on October 12 will mark an auspicious beginning for all of us. Be it Jammu, Kathua, or Samba, ‘Jammu ke yahi pukar, aa rahi hai BJP sarkaar.'” The Prime Minister also took aim at the Congress party for its past opposition to the 2016 surgical strikes against Pakistan, recalling that the party had questioned the validity of the operation. “Yeh naya Bharat hai, yeh ghar mein ghuskar maarta hain,” he stated, reminding the audience of India’s bold response to militancy through the surgical strikes conducted on September 28, 2016. “When bullets were fired from that side, the Congress waved white flags. But when the BJP government responded to those bullets with shells, the people on that side came to their senses,” Modi added.
Highlighting the significance of the surgical strikes, he emphasized that India had sent a clear message to the world, stating, “Aatank ke aakao ko pata hai agar kuch bhi himaakat ki toh Modi paataal mein bhi unhe khoj nikalega.” Modi criticized the Congress for its demand for proof of the surgical strikes, reiterating that “you should never forget the behaviour of Congress. They are the party that asked for proof from our army. Even today, they speak the language of Pakistan.”
Furthermore, the Prime Minister reminded the audience of the Congress party’s long history of failing to support armed forces personnel, referencing the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme that had been delayed for decades. “Congress can never respect those who die for the country. We, after forming the government in 2014, passed the OROP scheme, and till date, around ₹20 crore has been given to the personnel,” he noted.
Modi described the enthusiasm he witnessed during his visits to various locations in Jammu and Kashmir, stating, “Wherever I went, I felt an overwhelming enthusiasm for BJP.” He urged the crowd to recognize the challenges posed by the Congress, National Conference, and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that the people of Jammu and Kashmir desire peace, prosperity, and an end to militancy and violence. “The people here want a bright future for their children, and they see the BJP as the vehicle to achieve that,” he asserted. The Prime Minister remarked on the impressive voter turnout in the previous phases of elections, indicating a strong inclination towards the BJP. “The heavy voter turnout in the last two phases reflects the mood of the people of J&K. The BJP’s first government with full majority is almost certain,” he added.
Modi highlighted the historical significance of the current elections, asserting that such an opportunity for the people of Jammu region had never arisen before. “For the first time, a government according to the wishes of the people of Jammu region is going to be formed. Do not miss this opportunity, because the BJP government will alleviate your pain and address the discrimination faced by Jammu for decades,” he urged. Elections are being conducted in three phases in Jammu and Kashmir, with the first phase taking place on September 18 and the second phase on September 25. The final phase of polling is scheduled for October 1, followed by the counting of votes on October 8. This election marks a significant moment as it is the first assembly election in the Union Territory after a decade and the first since the abrogation of Article 370.
