Jammu: BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda Friday highlighted the transformative changes brought about under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi after abrogation of Article 370. This pivotal decision has set Jammu and Kashmir on a path of development, effectively integrating the region into the national mainstream, he said.
Addressed a public meeting in Kathua, Nadda criticized the National Conference (NC), Congress, and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for their alleged history of fostering militancy, corruption, and obstructing development efforts in the region.
Among those present at the meeting were the Kathua candidate Satish Sharma, DDC Chairman Colonel Mohan Singh, and BJP District President Omi Kumar Khajuria, alongside other party leaders.
Nadda urged the public to spread the message of progress initiated by Prime Minister Modi, emphasizing that it is essential to continue moving Kashmir forward. He articulated the emotional bond between Jammu & Kashmir and the Bharatiya Jan Sangh, noting that the BJP has been a steadfast ally of the people.
He remarked that historical figures such as Sher-e-Duggar Prem Nath Dogra and Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee fought for the integration of Jammu and Kashmir against the forces of division represented by Sheikh Abdullah and Jawaharlal Nehru.
Dr. Mookerjee, he noted, challenged the injustices of Article 370, advocating for the principle of “Ek Desh, Ek Nishan, Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan” in the country.
Nadda recounted Dr. Mookerjee’s sacrifice, which ultimately paved the way for the BJP’s success in abolishing Article 370 on August 5, 2019, a move he characterized as a landmark step towards unity and integrity for the nation.
In a significant observation, Nadda highlighted the remarkable voter turnout in the recent elections, noting that Srinagar’s valley experienced a turnout of 60%, a stark contrast to the previous rates of 8-10%.
He attributed this increase to the growing confidence among the people, who are now able to vote freely without the fear of violence or intimidation. The BJP President remarked that those who once resorted to militancy have now taken up the ballot, showcasing a victory for Indian democracy and the vision of peace and stability espoused by Prime Minister Modi.
Nadda pointed out the historical injustices faced by refugees from West Pakistan, who were previously denied the right to vote in Jammu and Kashmir.
However, with the abrogation of Article 370, these refugees now have the opportunity to participate in elections and exercise their rights. He also praised the BJP government for empowering marginalized communities such as the Valmiki community, Gujars, Bakarwals, Padris, and Paharis by granting them equal rights and reservations.
Critically assessing the opposition, Nadda accused the Congress, NC, and PDP of prioritizing their own interests over the welfare of the people. He stated that these parties have historically engaged in corrupt practices and familial politics, failing to address the genuine needs of Jammu and Kashmir. He specifically highlighted various scandals involving the NC, including the Roshni scam and land purchase scandals. Nadda promised that once BJP candidate Satish Sharma is elected, legal actions will be taken against those responsible for injustices in the region.
He expressed concern about the attempts by the NC to revert to past practices of the 1990s, including their manifesto pledge to release militants from jail. He emphasized that it is crucial for the BJP to win all seats in Kathua and Jammu and Kashmir to prevent any regression in the region’s progress.
Addressing the historical context of militancy in the region, Nadda noted the drastic reduction in the number of militants operating in Jammu, stating that previously hundreds of militants existed, but now only a few are identified. He attributed this success to the BJP’s commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
Nadda underscored the significant developmental strides made in Jammu over the past five years, citing the successful organization of major events like the G20 meeting in Srinagar and the Khelo India event.
With over two crore tourists visiting Jammu and Kashmir in a year, he noted that these developments have fostered a climate of peace and harmony in the region. He emphasized that the BJP, under Modi’s leadership, has actively worked on various issues related to development and has significantly reduced corruption that previously plagued the state.
The BJP National President also highlighted the broader economic context, stating that while many global economies face challenges, India is emerging as a “Bright Spot” under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.
He noted India’s rise from the 11th to the 5th position in the global economy and expressed confidence that India is on track to become the third-largest economy during Modi’s third term.
In terms of infrastructure, Nadda detailed the extensive development projects undertaken in Jammu, including the construction of national and state highways, tunnels, and the completion of the Chenab Bridge, which now stands as Asia’s tallest bridge. He emphasized that these initiatives have significantly improved connectivity and access to various regions, thereby promoting economic growth.
He said that BJP government has also focused on creating employment opportunities, with nearly 38,000 government jobs generated. Significant investments in education, healthcare, and infrastructure have transformed Jammu into an emerging educational hub, featuring institutions like AIIMS, IIT, and IIM.
Concluding his address, Nadda reiterated the need for a robust BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir to ensure the continuation of development initiatives.
He called upon the voters to support BJP candidates with a substantial majority across all seats, underscoring that the Modi government will construct three crore new homes under the PM Awas Yojana, guaranteeing shelter for all citizens. He also highlighted the introduction of health covers for the elderly and the ongoing initiatives under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
In a heartfelt appeal, BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda emphasized that only a BJP-led government can guarantee the effective implementation of these beneficial programs in Jammu and Kashmir.
He urged the voters to make the ‘Lotus’ bloom in every seat, promising that the BJP will complete all pending initiatives and continue the momentum of development and progress in the region.
