“NC-Congress Shielded Militancy For 40 Years, BJP Brings Dev”

Jammu: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday hit out at the Congress-National Conference alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, saying that “neither they nor three generations of their family” will be able to bring back Article 370 in the union territory. Shah claimed that Congress and NC were responsible for the killing of over 40,000 people in J&K, accusing them of propagating militancy.
Addressing multiple public meetings in Chenani Udhampur, Bani, Jasrota, and Madh regions, Amit Shah said, “You will all vote not just for Chenani but make a decision for the entire Jammu and Kashmir. After independence, it is for the first time that an election is held here where there is no Article 370 or a separate flag…National Conference and Rahul Baba say that we will bring back Article 370, but I want to tell them that neither you nor the three generations of yours will be able to bring back Article 370.”
Attacking three political families — ‘Gandhis’, ‘Muftis’ and ‘Abdullahs’ — the Home Minister said they only gave tickets to their people and perpetuated militancy in the region. “The three families have given tickets to their own people and made only 87 MLAs. But we made more than 30,000 Panch, Sarpanch, and Tehsil Panchayats… The river of corruption that they started was cleaned by Prime Minister Modi from the bottom,” the Home Minister said.
“The world is closely watching the Jammu and Kashmir elections, where two vastly different visions are at play. On one hand, the NC, Congress, and PDP parties, perpetuating militancy in the region for around 40 years, are eyeing for power. On the other hand, the BJP, committed to rooting out militancy entirely, offers an absolutely contrasting picture,” he said.
Shah said that the Abdullahs and Nehrus are to be held accountable for the killing of 40,000 people in Jammu and Kashmir. “Where was Farooq Abdullah at that time? He was vacationing in London during the summers and riding expensive motorcycles,” he said.
Extending an olive branch to the militants operating in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Amit Shah asked them on Thursday to give up arms and come forward for talks with the government or be prepared to get neutralized at the hands of security forces.
“For vote-bank politics, they (opposition parties) are asking for talks with militants. If they want to talk, let them come forward after giving up arms. In the northeast, 10,000 people have surrendered,” the senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said, addressing a poll rally in this Assembly segment in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district.
This was Mr. Shah’s fourth rally of the day in Udhampur and Kathua districts, which, along with Jammu and Samba districts and three north Kashmir districts of Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora, are scheduled to go to polls in the third and final phase of the Assembly election on October 1.
“Give up arms and come for talks, otherwise our forces will hunt you down,” the Home Minister said, pledging to bury militancy in “pataal” (under the ground). He said the BJP has strengthened grassroots-level democracy in Jammu and Kashmir, which is now moving forward on the path of development after suffering immensely due to militancy for more than three decades.
“The first two phases of polling (on September 18 and September 25) are over, and we have a record 55-per cent voting. The time has gone when you were getting elected by a few thousand votes,” Mr. Shah said, targeting the National Conference (NC), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and Congress leadership.
“The NC and the Congress provided protection to militancy for 40 years…. We have finished militancy and opened new avenues of development for Jammu and Kashmir, which is marching forward along with the other parts of the country. We will not rest till militancy is buried in ‘pataal’,” the Home Minister asserted.
Referring to Rahul Gandhi’s recent comments, he said, “Rahul Gandhi said in America recently that reservations are not needed in India as those given reservations have progressed enough and are now part of the creamy layer in the country.”
In another attack on NC leader Farooq Abdullah, Shah accused him of misleading Gujjars and Bakarwals by suggesting that Pahari reservations would reduce their quota.
He assured voters that under the BJP government, “even if they hang themselves upside down, they cannot snatch your reservations as long as Narendra Modi is the PM of the country.”
Shah further slammed the NC for prioritizing their party flag over the national Tricolour and claimed Abdullah had been spreading fears about militancy in the Pir Panjal region.
He said, “The government headed by Narendra Modi will bury militancy so deep under the earth that it can never emerge again in J&K.”
Criticizing the NC and Congress for advocating dialogue with Pakistan, Shah firmly said there would be no talks with Pakistan until militancy was fully eradicated. He assured the crowd that no militant or stone-pelter would be released from jail under the BJP’s rule.
