KU appoints Prof Sharief Ud Din Pirzada as new Dean Academic Affairs

Srinagar : The University of Kashmir (KU), Tuesday, appointed Prof Sharief Ud Din Pirzada as the varsity’s new Dean Academic Affairs. His appointment has been warmly received by the KU community, including officers of the administration, faculty, scholars and students.
Prof Sharief Ud Din Pirzada has a distinguished career at KU, having served as Dean, School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and as Head, Department of Mathematics at various intervals. He holds a Ph D in Applied Mathematics from Aligarh Muslim University and has taught numerous courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
“Prof. Pirzada Sharief Ud Din, Department of Mathematics shall function as Dean Academic Affairs w.e.f. 24.09.2024 for a period of three (03) years or till he attains the age of superannuation, whichever is earlier,” read a KU order.
In her congratulatory message, KU Vice Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan, expressed her confidence in Prof Pirzada’s abilities, stating, “Prof Pirzada’s vast experience in academia will be instrumental in guiding our academic programmes. I am sure that his leadership will bring innovative changes and encourage an environment of excellence in our institution.”
KU Registrar, Prof Naseer Iqbal, also conveyed his best wishes, and said: “Prof Pirzada has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to academic pursuits. His appointment as the Dean Academic Affairs is a significant step towards advancing the university’s educational objectives.”
Prof Pirzada has also received numerous awards and grants, including the Chebyshev Grant from the International Mathematical Union for the ICM 2022 in St. Petersburg, Russia. His research interests include Combinatorics and Graph Theory and he has supervised 13 Ph D and 4 M Phil students, contributing significantly to the academic landscape of the university.
In addition to his administrative roles, Prof Pirzada has coordinated various workshops and research promotion initiatives and has also delivered invited and contributed talks at international conferences and meetings abroad including and notably in countries like the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Russia, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Hungary, Turkyë, Lebanon, Taiwan, China, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brazil, Algeria, Spain, Iran, Bangladesh, etc. Expressing gratitude for his new role, Prof Shariefuddin Pirzada thanked the university administration especially, KU Vice Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan, for entrusting him with this new responsibility. “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve our institution in this capacity. I will strive to meet the expectations of the university community and ensure that we achieve new heights in academic and research pursuits,” he maintained.
