Kulgam :The use of electric current to kill fish including trout in NallahVeshow in south Kashmiri’s Kulgam district goes on unabated, and that too in the face of tall claims of the fisheries department who watching as mute spectator.
A local said that use of illegal method of electro fishing to hunt the fish from a running veshow becomes very effective at this point of time when the water flow is slow and the water level is low.
“Fisheries department which is supposed to monitor the stream are in deep slumber or silently overseeing the wrongdoings. Fisheries department guards who are posted in the area are nowhere to be seen”, locals alleged.
Shabir Ahmad, Incharge Assistant Director Fisheries, Kulgam when contacted said “They have constituted the anti-poaching team led by fisheries inspector, adding anyone found involved in this illegal practice will be dealt with strictly under law,” he said. He also urged general public to refrain from such illegal activities or to face strict action.
