Jammu : The second phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir is set to take place on September 25th, with 26 assembly segments, including 11 seats from three districts in Jammu Division, heading to the polls.
Among them, the newly created Mata Vaishno Devi assembly constituency in Reasi district is a key focus in this phase.
The 58-Mata Vaishno Devi Assembly Constituency was carved out of the Reasi Assembly Constituency after delimitation, and now has a total of 56,506 registered voters—29,660 men and 26,846 women. For this election, 90 polling stations have been established, including one “Pink” station for women, two “Green” stations, and two specifically designed for persons with disabilities (PwD), highlighting the constituency’s significance in the district’s political landscape.
Seven candidates are vying for the seat, including four independents. The prominent contenders include Bhupinder Singh from the NC-Congress alliance, BJP leader Baldev Raj Sharma, and JKPDP candidate Pratap Krishan Sharma. Independent candidates in the race are Jugal Kishore, Bansi Lal, Raj Kumar, and Sham Singh.
To ensure smooth voting, authorities have implemented stringent security measures. “Adequate arrangements have been put in place to ensure a peaceful and incident-free election,” said an election official overseeing preparations.
