Srinagar : Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on Saturday that the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be a contest between the “three dynasties” — Congress, National Conference (NC), and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) — and the youth of the Union Territory.

In his first rally for the election-bound region, Modi criticized these parties for their alleged corrupt practices, which he claimed “hollowed out” and “destroyed” Jammu and Kashmir. He accused these dynasties of creating a dire situation in the region, fostering militancy and extremism for personal gain.

Modi stated, “This year’s elections will be a choice between these three dynasties and the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. These families have been responsible for the region’s long-standing troubles, indulging in corruption and neglecting basic needs. They laid the groundwork for militancy and extremism, providing a safe haven for such activities to flourish for their own benefit.”

He vowed that his government would transform Jammu and Kashmir, promising a “Modi Ki Guarantee” for prosperity. Expressing gratitude for the public’s support, Modi committed to working diligently for the region’s development, stating, “Together, we will build a safe and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.”

The Prime Minister emphasized that the upcoming Assembly elections would be pivotal for the Union Territory’s future. He highlighted that since independence, Jammu and Kashmir has faced challenges from foreign powers and internal corruption, noting that past political parties failed to address the needs of the youth and promoted family dynasties instead.

Modi referenced previous elections, explaining that in 2018, panchayat elections were held, followed by Block Development Council (BDC) elections in 2019 and District Development Council (DDC) elections in 2020. These were aimed at bringing democracy to the grassroots level, he said.

Recalling a period when even the Union Home Minister was reluctant to visit Lal Chowk due to security concerns, Modi noted the significant improvements in the region’s situation. He stated that militancy is now “breathing its last” and highlighted the transition from stones being thrown at security forces to being used in construction projects.

The Prime Minister underscored his commitment to improving education in Jammu and Kashmir, citing the inauguration of new schools and colleges and fulfilling the long-standing demand for a medical college in Doda.

He urged voters to support BJP candidates for a brighter future, emphasizing that the BJP is dedicated to safeguarding the rights of all citizens in Jammu and Kashmir.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a rally in Doda on September 14, 2024, pledged to transform Jammu and Kashmir into a militancy free region and a prime tourist destination. He announced the Pandit Premnath Dogra Rozgar Yojana, aimed at generating lakhs of employment opportunities in the region.

Modi highlighted improvements in local education, noting the increase in seats at medical colleges, AIIMS, and IITs within Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that BJP’s policies would not only provide traveling allowances for students but also enhance tourism by improving connectivity.

The Prime Minister assured that the BJP would grant full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, promising a safe, peaceful, and prosperous future. He urged voters to support BJP candidates in the upcoming Assembly elections.

The upcoming elections are scheduled for September 18, September 25, and October 1, with counting on October 8. The first phase will cover eight Assembly seats across Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts. This will be Jammu and Kashmir’s first Assembly election since 2014 and follows the abrogation of Article 370.

According to the Election Commission of India, Jammu and Kashmir has 88.06 lakh eligible voters. In the last Assembly elections, the PDP won 28 seats, BJP secured 25, NC won 15, and Congress obtained 12. The PDP-BJP coalition government fell in June 2018 after the BJP withdrew support from then-Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
