On Teachers’Day, I pay tribute to my beloved murshid Abdul Salam Dar Sahab, whose guidance has significantly enhanced my spiritual understanding. I am indebted to him. In fact teacher is a friend, philosopher, and a guide who holds our hand, opens our mind, and touches our heart. The contribution of a teacher cannot be ignored at all.Teachers are the pillars of our society, nurturing the minds of the next generation. They deserve our utmost respect and appreciation. Let us express our gratitude for their tireless efforts and unwavering allegiance to our betterment. As mentors, guides, and inspirations; they have exhibited remarkable dedication, patience, and commitment to our education, leaving an indelible mark on our personal and professional growth. I would like to discuss here the maiden conversation that transpired between Rumi and his master Shams Tabrazi. On November 15, 1244, a man attired in black from head to toe arrived at the renowned Sugar Merchants in Konya, introducing himself as Shams Tabrizi. Though claiming to be a traveling merchant, his true objective was to find something exclusive to Konya.
“Murshid is rooted in unwavering divine love and wisdom, making it the most revered and sacred. Ordinary love is characterized by self-interest, originating from desires and seeking fulfillment. The divine love is unconditional, boundless, imparting wisdom and on the path to enlightenment or self- realization, by having perfect union with the infinite Spirit.”
Upon discovering Rumi immersed in reading beside a substantial stack of books, Shams inquired, what is the purpose of your actions? Rumi responded with disdain, something you are incapable of understanding. In response, Shams cast the books into a nearby pool of water. Rumi promptly retrieved the books, surprised to find them dry. He then inquired, What is the meaning of this? Shams replied, Mowlana, this is the essence of what you are unable to understand. The story underscores that spirituality goes beyond scripted texts, requiring the expertise of a Murshid for accomplishment. To reclaim one’s innate divinity and organility the guidance of a pious murshid is essential. By diligently following a true Murshid, one can attain a similar level of enlightenment, as the Murshid facilitates the disciple’s ascent to their own plane of understanding. Murshid is rooted in unwavering divine love and wisdom, making it the most revered and sacred. Ordinary love is characterized by self-interest, originating from desires and seeking fulfillment. The divine love is unconditional, boundless, imparting wisdom and on the path to enlightenment or self- realization, by having perfect union with the infinite Spirit.
