Srinagar: Below is the timeline of weeklong key public events and activities of top public dignitaries within and outside Jammu & Kashmir:-
1. BSF Reviews Security Along LoC Ahead of J&K Assembly Elections: Ahead of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, Director General of Border Security Force (BSF) Daljit Singh Chawdhary, along with senior officials, reviewed the security situation and operational preparedness of forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kashmir frontier.
2. MHA Earmarks 4 MBBS Seats for Families of Militancy Victims: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has allocated four MBBS seats from the central pool for the academic year 2024-25. These seats are designated for the spouses and children of deceased or disabled civilian victims of militancy, supporting the affected families with access to medical education.
3. ECI Issues Notification For Final Phase Of J&K Assembly Elections: The Election Commission of India (ECI) today issued a notification for the third and final phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. This phase will cover 40 Assembly Constituencies (ACs) in the districts of Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora, Udhampur, Kathua, Samba, and Jammu.
4. Security Heightened Across J&K Ahead of Assembly Polls:
With the first phase of the Assembly elections approaching, security has been tightened across Jammu and Kashmir. Additional personnel have been deployed along highways and vital road links in Srinagar and adjacent districts to prevent any potential incidents.
5. LG Highlights Unity In Diversity At Kashmir Samvad Yatra: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha interacted with students from various states and union territories during the Kashmir Samvad Yatra, a Cultural Exchange Study Tour. Speaking at Raj Bhawan, he emphasized the importance of exchange programs in promoting unity, brotherhood, and leadership.
6. IGP Kashmir Reviews Security Arrangements For Upcoming Elections: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi, chaired a key security meeting at PCR Kashmir, Srinagar, ahead of the Assembly elections. Birdi briefed officers on election preparedness and the arrival of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) in Jammu and Kashmir.
7. Village Defence Guards In Jammu Equipped with Advanced SLRs: For the first time, Village Defence Guards (VDGs) in the Jammu region have been equipped with modern SLRs (Semi-Automatic Rifles), replacing outdated 303 rifles. The upgrade aims to enhance the effectiveness of VDGs in addressing militant threats, especially in remote areas of Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Poonch, and Jammu.
8. J&K Govt Ensures Continued Services Under Ayushman Bharat SEHAT: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has reassured beneficiaries of the Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY SEHAT scheme that the discontinuation by IFFCO-TOKIO will not affect their treatments. The move comes after private hospitals halted services due to unpaid dues amounting to Rs 160 crore.
9. GOC White Knight Corps Reviews Security in Doda-Kishtwar: As the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections approach, Lt Gen Naveen Sachdeva, GOC White Knight Corps, alongside Maj Gen Upkar Chander of CIF Delta, conducted a security review in the Doda-Kishtwar belt. The review focused on evolving security challenges and the region’s heightened vigilance.
10. LG Attends Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Foundation Day: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha attended the 39th Foundation Day of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board at SMVD University. The event coincided with the 14th annual day celebration of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Gurukul (SMVDG).
