Srinagar : In a glittering ceremony held in the Zaldagar area of Srinagar City on Thursday, Yasmin Khan, a dedicated teacher, was recognized for her outstanding commitment to education during a celebration for Teachers Day.
The event took place at Government Middle School (GMS) Chamardori, where teachers, students, and non-teaching staff gathered to honour the achievements of their teachers.
“Under the leadership of the school’s head, this dignified ceremony showcased the talents of the students, who performed a vibrant cultural program to add to the festive atmosphere. Yasmin Khan was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation, acknowledging her remarkable contributions. The audience expressed their admiration with applause as speakers commended her efforts both within the school and in advocating for its continued existence amidst challenges,” the statement said.
It said that Yasmin’s dedication was particularly evident in her work to secure a new location for the school in the densely populated Zaldgarh area. “Despite the difficulties posed by the lack of appropriate facilities, Yasmin took the initiative to find a suitable place for the school, engaging with the community and utilizing her resourcefulness. Had she not succeeded, the government would have been compelled to close the school, depriving many underprivileged students in downtown Srinagar of essential educational opportunities. Today, the school’s enrollment is steadily increasing, thanks to her tireless efforts,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Zonal Education Officer Razia Akhter congratulated Yasmin for her exceptional performance, highlighting the importance of her contributions to the educational landscape. In her acceptance speech, Yasmin expressed gratitude for the support she received from her colleagues, including Samina Akhtar, Tehmina Nazir, and Alia Rehman, as well as the encouragement from Razia Akhtar the Zonal Education Officer Zaldagar.
An open mic session allowed teachers and students to share their experiences and discuss the rights and responsibilities of educators. Leading up to the conclusion of the event, students Zainab (7th), Muntaza (8th), Zee Shan (6th), Zainab (5th), and Maryam (3rd) honored their teachers with heartfelt cards and gifts, celebrating their hard work and dedication. The ceremony opened with Bashir Ahmad, who emphasized the objectives and significance of Teachers Day, while Syed Anis Fatima thanked all attendees for their participation. In a moving appeal, the faculty members urged education officials to consider Yasmin Khan for a state-level award in recognition of her invaluable services to the community
