Drug Peddler Arrested In B’gam; Contraband Substance Also Recovered: Police

Srinagar: Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in Budgam and also recovered psychotropic substance from his possession, adding therein that a contraband substance was also recovered from a minor during checking at a checkpoint in Kupwara.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Budgam a police party of Police Station Magam at a checkpoint established at village Badran apprehended a suspect identified as Irfan Ahmed Lone alias Raja S/o Gh Mohd Lone R/o Budran Magam who was carrying a nylon bag. Stating that during search, 30 codeine phosphate bottles were recovered from the possession of the said accused, Police in its statement further said that the accused was subsequently arrested on the spot, adding therein that police Station Magam also recovered 35 more bottles of codeine phosphate bottles during more raids.
Police in its statement furthermore said that a case under FIR No. 120/2024 under section 8/21 NDPS Act, 121(1) BNS was registered at Police Station Magam and further investigation into the case is underway.
Stating that in a similar action in Kupwara, police during a checkpoint established by a police party of Police Post Baazar at Geerhachi recovered ten (10 grams) of a heroin-like substance from the possession of a 16-year-old boy (Name withheld), Police in its statement said that the above mentione minor was subsequently sent to Juvenile home Harwan, Srinagar, adding therein that a case under FIR No. 203/24 under Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Kupwara and further investigation is currently underway to trace the source and any potential connections involved in the case.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, reiterating therein its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
