5 drug peddlers arrested in Srinagar, Pulwama; Contraband substances also recovered: Police

Srinagar: Police on Monday said that it has arrested five drug peddlers in Srinagar and Pulwama districts and also recovered contraband/psychotropic substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Srinagar, a police party from Police Station Shalteng at a checkpoint established at Sozeith Bund intercepted a vehicle (Swift) bearing registration number UK14TA-1714 with three suspects on board who were identified as Zubair Ahmad Sheikh S/o late Gulzar Ahmad R/o Lawaypora, Rafiq Ahmad Mir S/o Mohd Amin Mir and Shahid Ahmad Sheikh S/o Mohd Akbar Sheikh both residents of Panzinara. Stating that the said accused tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully by the alert police party, Police in its statement further said that during search, 6.55 grams of Brown Sugar and 2.1Kgs of grinded Cannabis were recovered from the possession of the said accused who have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Shalteng where they remain in custody, adding therein that the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Police in its statement said that in a similar action in Pulwama also, a police party of Police Station Pulwama during naka checking at Gudoora Bridge intercepted a vehicle (Scorpio) bearing registration no JK13A-4513 with two suspected on boards and identified as Nazir Ahmad ThokerS/o Ghulam Nabi Thoker R/o Gudoora Pulwama and Awtar Ghoslay S/o Santa Ram Ghoslay R/o Akhola, Maharashtra . Stating that during checking, 70 bottles of liquor were recovered from the possession of the said accused who were arrested and shifted to Police Station Pulwama where they remain in custody, Police in its statement further said that the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized, adding therein that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective Police Stations besides initiating further investigations.
In the concluding para of it above quoted statement Police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, reiterating therein its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
