Ganderbal, Aug 29: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) vice president, Omar Abdullah on Thursday made his first visit to Ganderbal two days after filing his nomination for the Assembly constituency.

Talking to reporters, Omar said that he has never taken any election for granted, especially after his defeat from the north Kashmir Parliamentary constituency in the recently held Lok Sabha elections. He was overpowered by the jailed political leader and Member of Parliament, Er. Rashid.

On being asked about Rashid’s bail, Omar said that bail is not granted through votes but by the court.

“Lets wait on what conditions will Engineer Rashid be allowed to walk out of jail, if the bail is granted,” he said.

He said that the J&K Assembly would be strengthened by the upcoming polls without specifying the reasons for it.

On forging alliance, Omar said it is necessary to restrict the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) to limited seats.

Omar was received by party members with garlands and slogans favouring JKNC.
