Srinagar : Prominent trade leader and former president of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCC&I), Sheikh Ashiq Tuesday announced his decision of joining Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) led by jailed leader and incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) from Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency, Engineer Abdul Rashid Sheikh.
Sheikh Ashiq said that he is joining mainstream politics and will be joining Er. Rashid led Awami Ittehad Party (AIP).
Ashiq, who is yet to formally join the AIP, stated that he has already made up his mind to enter into mainstream politics through this platform.
“For me, there is only one choice, and that is Er. Rashid. I am joining the party and whatever the party decides about my participation in the assembly elections, I will go with that,” he said.
Ashiq is a prominent businessman in Kashmir, and has served as president for one of the apex trade bodies in the valley.
He said that he is more ambitious about starting a new career in politics and will try to reach to the grassroots level to listen and address the common issues and concerns of the people.
