Srinagar: National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah on Monday again hinted that he may contest the upcoming Assembly polls.
After the scrapping of J&K special status, Omar has constantly stated that he would not contest polls until Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood is restored.
“It was his mistake that if I wasn’t willing to contest for this assembly, how come I would ask people to vote for my party candidates? How will my colleagues seek votes, if I am not ready to accept this assembly. .. I don’t want to give any wrong signal to the people that I tell them to go and vote for this assembly and I don’t accept this assembly,” Omar told reporters when asked if he would contest the polls from the Ganderbal constituency.
Omar assured that the party would announce its list of candidates soon.
Asked whether the Congress had any objections to the NC manifesto, Omar clarified that there were no issues.
“At no point did Congress raise objections to our manifesto,” he said. However, he mentioned that Congress had suggested a Common Minimum Programme (CMP) initially, which NC leadership rejected, stating that a CMP would be discussed after the election results.
Omar also ridiculed the BJP’s internal turmoil, saying, “Look at the condition BJP is in. They issued a list of candidates and deleted it within ten minutes!” He confidently stated, “Let BJP handle their own affairs; we’ll take care of ours.” UNI
