Srinagar: Rajinder Singh Tara, the newly posted Director General of the Youth Services and Sports Department (YSS) J&K, presided over the first meeting with the District Youth Services and Sports Officers (DYSSOs) of the Department at the Sports Complex, Wazirbagh, here. The meeting, which was conducted throughout the day, saw participation from DYSSOs of both divisions, with officers from the Jammu division joining via virtual mode. Additionally, Joint Directors of both divisions, the Deputy Director Central, and Section Incharges from various sections of the Directorate were also present.

During the meeting, Tara reviewed progress reports on sports development projects, ongoing activities, and any challenges faced by the field officers in their respective districts. He issued directives for the timely completion of all ongoing developmental works and emphasized the need for effective monitoring to ensure project milestones are met.
DG YSS commended the field staff for their ability to identify and nurture top sports talent, provided that they commit fully to their roles. He highlighted the critical importance of enhancing youth participation in sports, which not only contributes to their physical and mental well-being but also helps in steering them away from negative influences.
The meeting also addressed service and promotion-related concerns raised by the officers. Tara assured the attendees that their genuine issues would be addressed with urgency and priority.
In a separate session with District Publicity Coordinators (DPCs), Tara stressed the importance of widespread publicity for the Departmental activities. The DPCs presented a range of innovative ideas aimed at enhancing the visibility of sports initiatives across both divisions.
In his concluding remarks, Tara called for a concerted effort in celebrating the upcoming National Sports Day/Week with enthusiasm. He emphasized that National Sports Day is a vital occasion for fostering a strong sports culture in the country, promoting regular exercise, and encouraging a healthy lifestyle among all citizens, regardless of their background or beliefs.
Steps taken for the upcoming Youth Festival were also discussed, with the Director General stressing the importance of these events in showcasing the sports talent and creativity of the youth. He encouraged the officers to ensure that the festival is inclusive and that it provides opportunities for young people from all backgrounds to participate.
The meeting also discussed the arrangements for the upcoming marathon events, both half and full marathons. The Director General emphasized the importance of these events in promoting physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle among the youth.
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to discussing the arrangements for the upcoming National School Games.
The Director General emphasized the importance of this event as a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents on a national stage. He urged the officers to ensure that all preparations are completed well in advance, including the selection of participants, the organization of training camps, and the coordination of logistics.
