The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) may have improved sanitation facilities in recent years but it does not maintain well the community halls and public lavatories built for the conveniences of the people in recent years. While the top civic body of the summer capital gets huge revenue adequately and regularly from the users of these facilities in recent years, no proper practices and procedures are being adopted to main such public facilities for the conveniences of the people even in peak tourist season in mid summer months. The failure of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) in maintaining well constructed public facilities shows that it does not take care of the sanitation facilities in and around the public facilities constructed by it in recent years for the convenience of the people in the city. Before undertaking sanitation drive under “Swachhta Pakhwada” “In residential areas of Srinagar city very recently better it would have been for the Srinagar Municipal Corporation to undertake sanitation drives in and around community halls and public lavatory complexes across Srinagar city. Unfortunately people don’t prefer community halls for public events or private functions including marriage ceremonies due to poor sanitation facilities in and around the community halls. Unfortunately public facilities built by Srinagar Municipal Corporation across Srinagar are not getting the revenue which could be used for their maintenance and as such maintenance of civic facilities built by SMC years ago deserve immediate attention and intervention of the City Municipal Commissioner. People prefer to hire community halls constructed and maintained well by other departments like Tourism department but not of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) with the spirits of public convenience. Finally upkeep of such public facilities whether owned by SMC or any other Government Department matters the most.

Just like community halls the public lavatories constructed by Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) in the commercial hubs of Srinagar are not also maintained well for the purposes of both public convenience and as well as income generation.
