Jammu: In preparation for Raksha Bandhan, the J&K Police conducted a comprehensive market inspection focusing on the sale and distribution of Gattu Dor (Chinese manja) in Sub Division RS Pura.
The police spokesman said that this initiative aims to address concerns about the safety and quality of kite-flying threads, particularly with the festive season approaching. “Gattu Dor, noted for its sharpness and durability, poses risks to public safety and can harm birds and animals. The use of metal or glass-coated threads is banned by the district magistrate under a special order. Today’s market check was to ensure adherence to these regulations,” he said. The spokesman said that SHOs from the RS Pura, Bishnah, Miran Sahib, and Arnia police stations, along with local executive magistrates, visited various shops and wholesale markets known for kite-flying materials. “Vendors were reminded of the legal repercussions of selling prohibited items and were urged to comply with safety standards.”
The spokesman said J&K Police will continue to monitor compliance and take action against any violations. The public is encouraged to report illegal sales of harmful kite-flying threads to the nearest consumer protection office. “The safety of citizens and the environment is a priority. Cooperation from all stakeholders is essential to ensure a safe and festive season,” he said.
