Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it has arrested a wanted drug peddler in Baramulla and also recovered contraband substance from his possession besides destroying wild cannabis approximately on 3 Kanals of land.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police party of Police Station Pattan headed by SHO Police Station Pattan alongwith I/C Police Post Wussan at a checkpoint established at Wussan Pattan, intercepted one Mohd Amir Dar S/o Abdul Khaliq R/o Khambiyar, Palhallan and during search recovered 3.250 Kgs of Poppy Straw from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and shifted to Police Station Pattan where he remains in custody.
Stating that a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Pattan besides initiating further investigation into the cases, Police in its statement further said a comprehensive operation was launched by it to destroy wild cannabis in Kanchan village of Baramulla, adding therein that the team, comprising Police officials, respectables, Numberdars and Chowkidars conducted a thorough search of the area and identified vast tracts of land approx. 3 Kanals of wild cannabis.
Stating that the team meticulously destroyed the wild cannabis, ensuring that the drugs do not reach the streets and fuel addiction, Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, reiterating therein its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
