Jammu : Additional Commissioner State Taxes Department (STD), Administration & Enforcement, Jammu, Namrita Dogra, on Thursday chaired a ‘Dealers Meet’ with taxpayers of Circle D- Jammu and reviewed first quarter’s financial position of fiscal year 2024-25.
During the meeting, She also deliberated on devising a strategy for revenue argumentation during remaining three quarters.
Addressing the meeting, the Additional Commissioner stressed on 100% return filing compliance. She urged dealers to ensure return filing well before the last date.
Appreciating the dedication and honesty of Jammu City’s dealers, the Additional Commissioner STD said that Jammu City’s taxpayers traditionally remained obedient and file their respective taxes on time, which is expected in future too. Namrita Dogra stressed on 100% return compliance and clearing all the blocked payments. She also encouraged the business representatives to openly share their grievances with concerned State Tax Officers (STO).
Highlighting an analysis, the Additional Commissioner STD said informed the taxpayers that department has noticed a trend of overusing wrongful availment of input tax credit (ITC) or fake ITC claims, which emerged as a major cause of concern for Goods and Services Tax (GST) authorities.
Namrita Dogra said “We have noticed that some food vendors, restaurants, hoteliers and other traders are receiving payments through multiple UPI accounts to hide their actual turnovers, show suppressed sale and avoid issuing tax invoices. She remarked that such trend is in notice of the department and soon a drive will be launched to check these violations.
The Additional Commissioner STD said some people use ITC to claim fake credits in a wrong way by creating fake transactions or produce false invoices, which not only result in revenue loss but huge loss to honest taxpayers. She urged businesses community to join hands with administration to prevent ITC fraud.
Additional Commissioner STD also urged the taxpayers to keep their stock positioning and directed STO for frequent inspections of stocks in case of mismatch.
She said department has noticed that many important communications does not reach to the potential dealers , due to which department and taxpayers suffered.
“I have noticed many cases where dealer not aware of non-compliance or demand notices we issue because their own phone number is not registered with department, so I urge you all to register GST with personal email and mobile numbers to receive timely notification and effective communication,” she said.
The meeting was part of Commissioner State Taxes Jammu and Kashmir, P K Bhat’s , initiative under ‘Know Your Dealer’ initiative, launched to increase communication of circle level officers with the taxpayers to know their trade specific grievances and shortfalls. The meeting was pivotal for getting feedback from taxpayers and to make them aware of the consequences of non-compliance and tax evasions with a view to create deterrence amongst the taxpayers.
