The ouster of Sheikh Hassina as Bangladesh Prime Minister triggered by her decision on 30% reservation of Government jobs conveys a message that wining an election does not give ruling regimes a license to impose their decisions over the people against their whims, wishes and aspirations in any part of the world. Political wisdom demands that political parties in power evolve a national consensus over reservations in Government jobs and democratic institutions like parliament, assemblies, municipalities and panchatats. The ouster of Sheik Hassian as Bangladesh Prime Minister is also a pointer to the fact that for all practical purposes even a single fraction of imbalance in the representation of people of different classes and religions in Government jobs or democratic institution could throw a huge challenge not only to the ruling class but also to the security and integrity of any country. So political leaders developing trends of imposing their own decisions against the whims and wishes of their own people just for creating vote banks for their own political survival is a huge disservice they are doing to the country which they represent. Wisdom demands that national decisions are taken in broader national interests over and above the petty considerations of vote bank politics which unfortunately is more rampant in South Asian countries than other parts of the world. Reservations are in now way the tools of empowerment for people of underprivileged sections in any part of the world. By all standards of understandabilities the underprivileged sections of the society can be better empowered by increasing their accessibility to highest standards of education and not reservations in Government jobs and institutions of public representation.

In Fact greater focus on making children of underprivileged classes of the society competent enough to crack even the most difficult job oriented examinations both at the national and state levels would be real too of their empowerment. The happenings in Banglasdesh in the backdrop of it’s reservation decisions are really more worrying for India than any other neighbouring country as India being huge in size, population and military power besides infrastructure and democratic strength is expected to play a greater role in the restoration of political and security situation in Bangldesh. As Bangladesh is also undoubtedly one of the most trusted neighbours of India and as such the Government at the centre for all right reasons has shown concern over the instability in Bangladesh. While evacuation of all Indians pursuing education or involved in several business activities in Bangladesh is obviously the highest priority for the Government Of India but extending a hand of cooperation to the new interim Government of Bangladesh in restoration of peace and order in that country is also a moral responsibility of India as Bangladesh’s immediate neighbour.
