Srinagar : With an aim to streamline the formulation of Integrated Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDP) and develop strategies for the effective convergence of MGNREGA, a day-long District Level Consultation Workshop was held at Banquet Hall here on Wednesday.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat attended the workshop as the Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that the Workshop was aimed to create a sustainable and inclusive development model to address the unique needs of rural communities in the District.
The DC also stressed on adoption of optimal strategies, creative models for capacity building and Integrated GPDP & MGNREGA Convergence approach for effective implementation of the programme.
The event was organised by the Department of Rural Development &Panchayati Raj that brought together key officials of the District Administration including Chief Planning Officer, Assistant Commissioner Development, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat and Officers from various line Departments to discuss and strategize for improved rural development.
The workshop’s primary objective was to build the capacity and impart training to the frontline workers, field functionaries, and other stakeholders involved in GPDP formulation.
The emphasis was placed on devising effective strategies for MGNREGA convergence to enhance rural development.
The Assistant Commissioner Development delivered the welcome address, highlighting the crucial role of Convergent GPDPs in achieving holistic development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in rural areas. He underscored that integration would lead to more efficient resource utilization and the creation of tangible assets for community welfare.
Resource persons from the Department of Rural Development &Panchayati Raj, provided an overview of the process for preparing thematic area-wise GPDPs.
They discussed the challenges, strategies, and expectations for preparing convergent GPDPs and clarified the roles of BDOs, Panchayat Inspectors, Panchayat Secretaries, and line departments. The workshop facilitated a platform for in-depth discussions on various aspects of rural development planning, ensuring that all participants were equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to implement the plans effectively.
They also delivered a presentation on the convergent plan under MGNREGA. Besides insights and practical examples illustrated the potential benefits of well-coordinated efforts and the positive impact of convergent planning on community development.
The primary goal of the workshop was to present optimal strategies, approaches, and creative models for capacity enhancement and training, emphasizing coordinated efforts for effective implementation.
Overall, the workshop marked a significant step towards fostering a collaborative approach to rural development in Jammu and Kashmir. By bringing together various stakeholders and focusing on integrated planning and resource convergence,
